3 Christmas Survival Tips

1. For energy

Additional B vitamins! Your body does not store water soluble vitamins such as the B group, and so regular intake is necessary. B vitamins are involved in converting food to energy and should be taken in the morning, or before a big night out. However, taking them before going to bed could interfere with sleep.

2, For overindulging
Your liver can be challenged by too much alcohol or too much fatty food. If you are going to over indulge, then before, during and after your indulgence take the following steps to look after your liver:

  • Start the day with the juice of a lemon in some warm water, this helps kick start your digestive system and sluggish livers. Citrus fruits are great for helping the liver to detox, consider also eating a grapefruit for breakfast. They also contain vitamin C which is also water soluble and so not stored in your body. The benefits of vitamin C are increased antioxidant activity and immune system support.
  • Dandelion coffee is a good no caffeine substitute for your normal coffee as it supports digestion and your liver. It also has a gentle laxative effect.
  • Turmeric and garlic can be added to food, both support the liver. Turmeric is also antioxidant and anti-inflammatory which helps if you suffer from pain. Whereas garlic is also great for the lowering cholesterol, and supporting your immune system against infections.

Care is needed if you are on medications, in which case book and appointment with Maria to go through a plan to support your health in the Christmas season.

3. For stress
Even fun times can be stressful on the body, and you may be amongst those who find Christmas emotionally stressful. Here are 3 essential oils that can be used to help you through:

  • Lavender for sleep, just put 1 drop on your pillowcase as you go to bed.
  • Roman chamomile for frayed nerves, use in a diffuser, or add to a bath or to your body cream.
  • Geranium, the key word for this essential oil is balance. When you feel off centre add Geranium to your diffuser or to your body cream.

Wishing you a healthy Christmas, happy holidays, and hoping 2013 brings good health and joy to you and your loved ones.
